On August 4, one day shy of 7 weeks pregnant, I started bleeding. Not a good thing when you are preggers.
We did some googling (well, Doug did. I am not allowed.) and we figured it was ok, but I wanted to see two little heartbeats to make sure it was all ok. I had other friends experience the same thing and their babies were fine, but I was still a bit concerned. We suspected an SCH:
“A woman who experiences bleeding during early pregnancy may actually have a condition known as a subchorionic hematoma (SCH). ASCH is a collection of blood below the chorion, or placenta, which develops naturally as an embryo implants into the uterine lining.”
It is actually very common in twins with a normal pregnancy, but again. I just wanted to be sure. We got to the ER and it took a while. Finally, we got to see the ultrasound tech and we saw two heartbeats. All was fine. I just had a “bruise” in my uterus where the placenta had been separated.
Not to be gory, but I bled at least a cup of blood. So all you ladies out there, if you do bleed, do not give up hope. It may still be ok. My twins were fine. It was scary, but they were ok.
Since my SCH, I have had two friends experience the bleeding. One was a small SCH and the other a large SCH and all the babies are fine. It is more common than we know.
This is not a fun update, but it is real life. If it helps someone prepare or feel better after an SCH, I have done my job. It takes up to a month to to heal from an SCH. That means no sex, exercise or anything high impact. It is not ideal, but you have to heal.
On to more fun things…..
Love and Hugs, Lizzie
