Sarah and I were invited to a once in a lifetime event. “The Krewe” is a close group of friends from Lafayette that always vacations in Destin over Memorial Day weekend. To be invited you either have to be one of the original friends (started over 10 years ago) OR you must marry one of the original friends. Talk about exclusive! :)
This year a rare invitation was extended to Sarah and I. They had a few extra bedrooms and opened the invitation out to close friends of the group. Amanda called to invite me and a friend to join them. As this is the first time an invitation has been extended, I was quite honored!
Sarah and I had been talking about a weekend getaway and this invitation had come just at the right time. We were in! We drove towards Destin on the Friday before Memorial Day. I can say with absolute certainty, I WILL NEVER DO THAT AGAIN. It took AN HOUR to go 5 miles in Mobile. If I decide to head that way on a holiday weekend, I will leave Thursday, LATE Friday or Saturday. That was terrible, but I digress.
When we finally arrived, we were thrilled. The house was fabulous and the company rocked. We arrived with a gift.
I made coconut cups for everyone! As you will see later, the theme for this year was luau. That night Amanda and Brian made steak dinner. It was so fabulous!
The next morning we all woke up and split up. Some kids were going out on a boat for the day, some were going shopping and Sarah and I headed to the beach.
I found this broken umbrella (dad, you would be so proud) and rigged it so I stayed under it most of the time. We went for a walk on the beach and chilled out there relaxing until about 3 pm. When we got back to the house, Sarah and I did laps around the pool to get our steps for Fitbit. Such dorks! :)
We headed inside to get ready for dinner in San Destin. Once we were all primped, we headed out.
During our drive, we were stopped at a red light and Amanda got out and ran to the other car to bang on their window. I wish I would have taken a video because you could see all the people in the car lurch to the right (as she ran to the left side of the car) as they jumped. We giggled most of the way to the resort.
Once we arrived at San Destin, we parked and walked to the lucky restaurant that would feed us dinner, but there was an hour wait, so we walked around and I figured it was a GREAT time to spoil my supper and have ice cream!
Sarah and I snacked on ice cream and then we finally headed to dinner…
After dinner, we headed back to the house and got some rest. It really was a fun day in the sun. These kids are a blast!
Love and Hugs, Lizzie
Looks like so much fun! Love A-Ball in the last picture.
