Wikipedia told me:
“Catholics celebrate All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day in the fundamental belief that there is a prayerful spiritual communion between those in the state of grace who have died and are either being purified in purgatory or are in heaven…”
I remember being told that All Saint’s Day was the day to visit the gravesites of loved ones. I also remember being told that police are available for escorts to gravesites that are not in safe neighborhoods. I have never tested this theory, but I just might have to as I have relatives buried in St. Louis Cemetery No 2.
Here is a closer view. I am still trying to figure out which one is the family plot.
Ignore all the red and green lines on the photo below. My family’s plot is in the second column from the left, about halfway down. Look for #11 – it says PEYROUX. I also just figured out we have multiple tombs in this cemetery.
After digging further I found the following:
Charles Peyroux (1738-1794) is buried in St. Louis No 2, Lot 11 Alley 3.
His wife, Marie Susan Caue, (1755-1838) is also buried in the same tomb. They had nine children and 3 of them were married in St. Louis Cathedral in the late 1700’s and early 1800’s.
Their youngest son, JMG Silvain Peyroux (1792-1859) married Rose Algae Cantrelle (1806 –1840) lived in a plantation home called 3 Oaks next to the Domino Sugar Factory in St. Bernard and are both buried in St. Louis No 2, Alley 3. They had six children and those children are mostly buried in St. Louis No 2.
I have also photographed our family tomb in the Metairie Cemetery. My grandfather, Bob, and his parents are buried there.
