On our way home from Memphis a few weekends Doug and I discussed budgeting our money together. We sat down the following night and wrote down all of our expenses and made a zero based budget (thank you Dave Ramsey).
It was at this meeting I realized I AM THE FREE SPIRIT and the SPENDER! I was shocked. I always thought I was the nerd and the saver...but alas, I am not. Doug is the nerd and the saver. I was so surprised by this revelation. It seriously blew my mind. Doug wanted me to write down EVERY expense I have each month. What if I want to go shopping? He said that was fine I just had to put it in the budget....What? I have to write down everything? Every single thing? So I did.....I think. We shall see.
Our team budget starts on August 1, but my paycheck arrived on July 26 and that is my contribution to the August budget. So, on July 25 I had one last mini shopping spree. It was my last day of independent financial freedom so I hit Target to get some clothes for our upcoming trip. I told Doug and he said I was a binge shopper. How rude. 
I have been following Dave Ramsey and The Total Money Makeover for years. Check him out at www.daveramsey.com. I have followed his plan and his books very closely. I have even given his book to friends as they graduated or got married.
Doug really is supportive and wonderful. He is not limiting me or my spending at all- I just have to budget for whatever I want. It will take some time getting used to our new plan. I am not good at planning out my spending over the month. I will get better and better. Or else!
